ISLAMABAD, May 1, 2026 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has directed broadband service providers to improve internet quality after a nationwide survey identified performance gaps affecting user experience.
The regulator said it had completed Quality of Service (QoS) surveys for fixed-line broadband services across 31 major cities, including regions of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, during the first quarter of 2026.
The surveys assessed network performance of broadband service providers against key performance indicators such as network availability, jitter and latency across both local and international segments.
The findings showed that most providers complied with core KPIs, particularly in maintaining network availability and managing jitter levels. However, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority flagged performance challenges among some operators across multiple parameters.
According to the report, high bandwidth utilization during peak hours led to network congestion and slower internet speeds, undermining overall service quality. Increased latency in both domestic and international traffic was also observed, indicating inefficiencies in routing and backbone infrastructure.
The regulator has instructed concerned operators to take immediate corrective measures to enhance network performance and improve QoS standards.
Pakistan has seen rising demand for high-speed internet services driven by digital adoption, remote work and online services, putting pressure on broadband infrastructure.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said it remains committed to improving fixed-line broadband services and ensuring a better digital experience for consumers nationwide.
Detailed results of the QoS survey for the first quarter of 2026 have been made publicly available on the PTA’s official website.
