The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the FIA Cyber Crime Circle, has raided a Ufone franchise in Arifwala, Sahiwal, uncovering a large-scale illegal SIM issuance operation.
During the raid, authorities seized a significant amount of evidence, including 650 paper fingerprints (6,500 impressions), 1,500 digital fingerprints (15,000 impressions), 12 silicon thumb/finger sets, 105 active SIMs, three BVS devices, a scanner, and a laptop. The FIA immediately confiscated the equipment and arrested the franchise owner.
Additionally, a second suspect was arrested in Bahawalnagar for supplying fingerprints used in illegal SIM registrations. A formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and the FIA has launched an in-depth investigation into the case.
Crackdown on Illegal SIM Issuance
This raid is part of PTA’s ongoing nationwide crackdown against the misuse of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). The illegal issuance of SIMs poses serious risks, including cybercrime, fraud, and terrorism. PTA has intensified enforcement efforts to curb unauthorized SIM registrations and strengthen national security.
PTA’s Commitment to Secure Telecom Services
PTA has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating fraudulent activities in the telecom sector. The Authority continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure strict compliance with telecom regulations and prevent illegal SIM issuance.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious SIM-related activities to PTA or law enforcement authorities.
The successful raid on the Ufone franchise highlights PTA and FIA’s firm stance against illegal SIM issuance. By cracking down on fraudulent activities, authorities aim to protect consumers, prevent cybercrime, and enhance national security.
This operation serves as a warning to those involved in illegal telecom practices—strict action will be taken against violators. The PTA remains committed to ensuring a secure and compliant telecom environment, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to help eliminate such threats.
