PTA Urges Consumers to Verify Mobile Tax Status Before Purchase

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory urging all mobile phone buyers to verify the tax payment status of devices before making a purchase.

This measure ensures compliance with national regulations and prevents potential legal issues.

According to the PTA, consumers must confirm that all applicable taxes on mobile devices have been paid and that the devices are registered under the correct CNIC or passport category in the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS). Failure to do so could result in network restrictions or additional financial obligations for the buyer.

For those purchasing unregistered mobile devices, the responsibility of tax payment falls on the buyer. The PTA mandates that all applicable taxes and duties must be paid within 60 days of purchase to activate the device on local networks.

Consumers are also advised to make these payments personally through authorized banking channels to avoid potential scams. Fraudulent intermediaries may claim to facilitate tax payments but could engage in illicit activities, leading to financial losses.

The PTA clarified that all mobile phone taxes and duties are imposed solely by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The authority’s role is limited to overseeing the registration process through DIRBS, ensuring that only legally approved devices can operate on Pakistan’s telecom networks.

By following these guidelines, consumers can safeguard their investments, avoid unnecessary complications, and contribute to a regulated and secure telecom environment.

The PTA continues to emphasize the importance of due diligence before purchasing mobile devices to ensure hassle-free usage and legal compliance.

Verifying the tax status of mobile devices before purchasing is essential to avoid legal and connectivity issues. Buyers should ensure that all applicable taxes are paid and that devices are registered under the correct CNIC or passport category in the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS).
