Punjab Anticipates Widespread Rainfall Across Most Districts

Islamabad, February 15, 2025 – The province of Punjab is preparing for widespread rainfall across most of its districts next week, according to official weather forecasts released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The anticipated rainfall is expected to bring much-needed relief from the ongoing dry weather while lowering temperatures across the region.

The PMD has confirmed that a new weather system will enter Punjab on February 18, 2025, initiating rain showers in various districts, including the provincial capital, Lahore. The rain is likely to continue from February 19, with Lahore forecasted to receive moderate rainfall. The city, currently experiencing dry and relatively cold weather, recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C today, with the maximum expected to reach 24°C.

In addition to Lahore, other major cities across Punjab, such as Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Bahawalpur, are also expected to experience rainfall. Southern Punjab, particularly Bahawalpur, is likely to witness high humidity levels, reaching up to 94%, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 11°C. Meanwhile, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan will experience similar weather patterns, with daytime temperatures climbing to 10°C.

Weather experts have advised residents in central and northern Punjab to remain cautious of foggy conditions, particularly in cities like Jhelum, Sargodha, and Attock. Minimum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover between 5°C and 7°C, with slightly warmer conditions anticipated in Jhelum and Sargodha.

While Punjab prepares for wet weather, Karachi is experiencing rising temperatures, with a recorded maximum of 33.2°C yesterday. Meteorologists have warned of reduced visibility in Karachi due to fog, which may disrupt road traffic over the weekend.

In the northern regions of the country, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa continues to endure cold weather, with heavy snowfall reported in Kalam, where 17 inches of snow have accumulated. Other areas such as Malam Jabba and Chitral also received snowfall, with temperatures in Parachinar plummeting to -4°C.

The upcoming rain in Punjab is expected to improve air quality, particularly in urban centers like Lahore, where smog has been a persistent issue in recent months. Authorities have urged residents to stay updated with official weather announcements and take precautions against potential disruptions caused by the rain.

With Punjab on alert for the approaching rainfall, the province is likely to experience a noticeable shift in weather conditions, bringing much-needed moisture to the region while providing temporary relief from the dry spell that has persisted over the past few weeks.
