Islamabad, January 26, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting frosty mornings in isolated areas of Punjab on Monday, January 27, 2025. The province is set to endure a cold spell with frosty conditions and chilly weather dominating the forecast.
The PMD stated that most districts of Punjab would experience cold and dry weather on Monday. Murree, Galliyat, and nearby regions are expected to see particularly frigid conditions during the morning and night hours. Isolated frost is likely to form in the Potohar region during the early hours of the day. Additionally, shallow fog in patches may develop in areas such as Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and their surroundings, causing visibility challenges during the morning.
For Sunday night, the PMD reported that Punjab would experience cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions persisting in the hill stations of Murree, Galliyat, and adjacent areas. The department emphasized that the prevailing continental air across the country is contributing to the current weather patterns.
At the national level, cold and dry weather will dominate most parts of Pakistan, with hilly regions expected to remain particularly chilly on both Sunday and Monday mornings. These conditions align with the PMD’s recent forecast that predicts little change in weather trends over the coming days.
In the past 24 hours, cold and dry conditions prevailed in most parts of the country, with hilly areas experiencing very cold temperatures. Some of the lowest recorded temperatures include Leh at -13°C, Gupis at -11°C, Astore and Skardu at -10°C, Hunza at -6°C, and Kalat and Quetta at -4°C.
Punjab, with its varied geographical landscape, is particularly vulnerable to winter extremes. The Potohar region often experiences frost during severe cold spells, while districts like Murree and Galliyat regularly endure freezing temperatures. The chilly weather is expected to persist across Punjab in the coming days, urging residents to take precautions, especially during the early mornings.
The PMD has advised travelers and commuters in Punjab to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to fog and frost, to avoid disruptions. The ongoing weather is a reminder of the seasonal challenges faced by Punjab during winter months, reinforcing the need for preparedness and timely action.
