Rains Predicted for Balochistan, KPK, and Punjab on March 11

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, March 10, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rains across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and Punjab on Monday, March 11, 2024, offering respite from the prevailing dry and cold conditions.

In the forecast for Monday, the PMD anticipates cold and partly cloudy weather in most regions of the country. However, significant rainfall and thunderstorms, with the possibility of snowfall over hills, are expected in upper Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.

The current weather conditions, as of Sunday, March 10, 2024, indicate that the nation can expect cold and partly cloudy to cloudy weather in most parts. Meanwhile, rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with a chance of snowfall over hills, are likely in south/northwestern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas.

According to the PMD’s synoptic analysis, a westerly wave is currently influencing northwestern Balochistan and is expected to extend its impact to most upper parts by tonight.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed in most areas of the country, with particularly very cold conditions in the northern regions. Southern Balochistan experienced rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with notable rainfall recorded in various locations. The recorded rainfall (in mm) included Gwadar 21, Turbat 10, Lasbella 03, Ormara, Punjgur, Jiwani 02, and Pasni 01.

Furthermore, the lowest minimum temperatures recorded today (in °C) were Leh -09, Kalam -08, Gupis -03, Astore and Hunza -02.

The expected precipitation is welcomed news for the regions affected by dry and cold weather, particularly as Balochistan has been grappling with a lack of rainfall. The rains are crucial for agricultural activities, replenishing water reservoirs, and providing relief from the prolonged cold spell.

Residents are advised to stay informed about local weather updates, and relevant authorities are urged to take necessary precautions to ensure public safety during the anticipated weather conditions. As the country braces for the upcoming rain and snowfall, it is hoped that these climatic changes will bring much-needed relief to the affected regions.
