Procedure to Amend Personal Information for Tax Filing

Karachi, March 10, 2024 – In a bid to enhance user convenience and streamline the tax filing process, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a user-friendly procedure for amending personal information for the upcoming tax year of 2024.

The initiative aims to empower taxpayers by providing them with multiple accessible channels to update and modify their registration information for Income Tax Return filing.

As per the information available on the FBR website, individuals seeking to amend their personal details can now do so through three distinct methods:

1. Changing Information through Iris:

• Taxpayers can navigate the process of updating their information by logging into Iris, the FBR’s online tax filing portal.

• The following details can be modified through Iris using Registration Form 181 (filed for modification) for Income Tax Return:

• Mobile number

• Email

• Personal/Residential Address

• Business Address

• Addition of Business Branches

• Legal Representative under section 87 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001

• Bank Account

2. Changing Information through FBR Helpline:

• Individuals also have the option to change or update their information by reaching out to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) helpline via phone or email.

• The helpline supports modifications for the following details:

• Name

• Date of Birth

• Gender

• Disability Status

• Older Citizen Status

3. Changing Information by Visiting Regional Tax Office (RTO):

• For specific changes related to registration, individuals are required to visit their respective Regional Tax Office (RTO).

• The following issues can be addressed by visiting the RTO:

• Discontinuance of business

• Jurisdiction for Income Tax Return assessment

• Deregistration

• Updating CNIC number

• Updating Pakistan Origin Card (POC)

For successful modifications through the RTO, individuals must bring along the relevant documents pertinent to their Income Tax Registration.

This initiative by the FBR not only simplifies the process of updating personal information but also aligns with the broader objective of fostering transparency and efficiency in the tax filing system. By providing taxpayers with multiple avenues for making necessary amendments, the FBR aims to ensure that individuals can easily manage and update their records, contributing to a more seamless and user-friendly tax filing experience. Taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of these accessible channels to keep their information current and compliant with the latest regulatory requirements.
