Ricky Ponting Urges Warner’s Retention in 4th Ashes Test

Former cricketer Ricky Ponting, who has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, has voiced his opinion on the selection debate surrounding David Warner for the upcoming fourth Ashes Test to be held in Manchester.

Despite Warner’s recent struggles against Stuart Broad, Ponting firmly believes that the seasoned opener should be given another opportunity due to his impressive track record.

Ponting also pointed out the limited match practice for alternative openers, further bolstering his argument in favor of Warner’s retention.

In addition, Ponting addressed Warner’s nervous demeanor and urged him to exhibit a more resilient and determined attitude on the field. These remarks were made during Ponting’s appearance on the latest episode of The ICC Review hosted by Sanjana Ganesan.

Highlighting Warner’s experience and previous accomplishments, Ponting emphasized the need to grant him another chance.

On the other hand, Ponting raised concerns about the lack of first-class cricket exposure for reserve openers Marcus Harris and Matthew Renshaw, making Warner the more practical choice.

Regarding the bowling lineup, Ponting suggested that if Josh Hazlewood is fit, he should be reintegrated into the team, as his absence in the third Test was unclear.

Scott Boland, who faced difficulties in the previous match, is likely to make way for Hazlewood’s return. Ponting commended Mitchell Starc’s progress throughout the series, noting his improved performances.

Pat Cummins, the team’s captain, is expected to continue leading the squad, while Nathan Lyon will retain his position as the spinner.
