April 6, 2025 – In a significant development, Saudi Arabia has introduced sweeping changes to its visa policy, affecting travelers from 14 countries, including Pakistan, India, Egypt, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
The move comes in light of preparations for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, during which the Kingdom traditionally enforces stricter entry rules to manage the massive influx of pilgrims.
According to diplomatic sources, the new visa restrictions will take effect starting April 13, 2025. The revised policy primarily impacts multiple-entry and short-term visa categories such as business visit visas, tourist e-visas, and family visit visas. Citizens from the affected nations will no longer be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia under these visa types during the restricted period.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan has not yet issued an official statement, and Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan was unavailable for comment. However, insiders confirm that individuals currently holding valid short-term Saudi visas may remain in the Kingdom only until April 13. After that date, even if a visa is technically still valid, entry will not be granted, and overstaying could result in severe consequences, including a five-year entry ban.
The affected countries include Pakistan, India, Egypt, Yemen, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Jordan, Morocco, Iraq, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. This broad geographical sweep indicates Saudi Arabia’s heightened control over travel logistics during the Hajj season. The policy is expected to significantly impact frequent travelers, business professionals, and expatriate families who often rely on multiple-entry visa options.
Holders of valid business visas will also be barred from entering Saudi Arabia after the cutoff date, regardless of the visa’s stated expiration. Many professionals across South Asia and North Africa now face travel disruptions, and companies with business links to Saudi Arabia are scrambling to adjust their schedules before the restrictions come into force.
While the Kingdom has not officially explained the rationale behind the abrupt tightening of visa regulations, it appears to be a preemptive measure to streamline border control during one of the busiest periods of the year.
Travelers are strongly advised to reconsider any non-essential trips to Saudi Arabia after April 13, even if they possess valid short-term visas, to avoid complications.
