State Bank of Pakistan to remain closed from May 26 to May 28 for Eid-ul-Adha holidays

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday announced bank holidays from May 26 to May 28, 2026, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

In a circular issued to presidents and chief executive officers of banks, development financial institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks (MFBs), the central bank said it would remain closed from Tuesday, May 26, to Thursday, May 28, as public holidays declared by the federal government.

Earlier this week, the federal government announced a three-day public holiday schedule for Eid-ul-Adha through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

According to the notification, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved public holidays on May 26, 27 and 28 across the country.

The announcement followed confirmation by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee that Eid-ul-Adha would be observed on May 27 after the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

The committee made the announcement after a meeting held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi under the chairmanship of Maulana Azad.

Officials said credible testimonies of moon sighting were received from multiple parts of the country, confirming that the first day of Zilhaj 1447 AH fell on May 18, 2026.

Commercial banks and financial institutions are expected to resume normal operations on Friday, May 29.
