School Holiday Announced for Youm-e-Ali on March 22, 2025

The School Education and Literacy Department (SELD) Sindh has officially declared Saturday, March 22, 2025, a holiday in observance of Youm-e-Hazrat Ali (R.A).

This decision applies to all public and private schools and colleges across the province, ensuring a day of reverence and reflection for students and educators alike.

According to a notification issued on Tuesday, all educational institutions under the jurisdiction of SELD will remain closed on holiday Saturday, which falls on the 21st of Ramadan. The announcement aligns with the resolution passed during the Sub-Committee meeting of the Steering Committee on Education, held on November 28, 2024. The official statement, also shared on X, reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to observing religious occasions with respect and significance.

This holiday declaration ensures that students, teachers, and educational staff can fully participate in religious gatherings and commemorations without any academic obligations. Observed with great devotion across Pakistan, Youm-e-Ali marks the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali (R.A), an esteemed figure in Islamic history. To facilitate public participation and maintain order, local authorities have put in place comprehensive security measures.

In Karachi, the primary Youm-e-Ali procession will commence from Nishtar Park and conclude at Imambargah Hussainia in Kharadar. To manage the expected crowds and ensure smooth traffic flow, designated diversions and alternative routes have been planned. Enhanced security arrangements, including additional surveillance cameras, have been deployed to monitor the event.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, a significant procession will be taken out from Imambargah Qasar Zainabya. Other cities across Pakistan will also witness similar processions, with strict security protocols in place. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate and follow official guidelines to ensure a peaceful observance of the occasion.

The announcement of this holiday highlights the importance of Youm-e-Ali in Pakistan’s religious and cultural landscape. By granting a holiday, the Sindh government acknowledges the significance of this solemn day, allowing the public to engage in prayers and processions without disruption.

With this holiday declaration, schools and colleges across Sindh will resume regular academic activities from Monday, March 24, 2025.
