Highly skilled workers to receive Rs55,626 monthly as board revises wages across categories
KARACHI: The Sindh Minimum Wage Board has unanimously approved revised minimum wage rates for workers across different skill categories, setting the highest monthly wage at Rs55,626 for highly skilled employees.
The decision comes amid rising inflation and increasing living costs, with provincial authorities aiming to improve workers’ earnings and ensure fair compensation across industrial and commercial sectors.
New Minimum Wage Structure Announced
Under the revised recommendations, minimum monthly wages have been fixed according to workers’ skill levels. Unskilled workers will receive a minimum wage of Rs43,000, while semi-skilled workers will be entitled to Rs44,451 per month.
The board has set the minimum wage for skilled workers at Rs53,101, whereas highly skilled workers will receive Rs55,626 per month. The revised rates will apply to employees working in industrial and commercial establishments throughout Sindh.
Labour officials said the new wage structure is designed to better reflect workers’ skills and responsibilities while providing relief against rising household expenses.
Equal Pay Requirement Reaffirmed
The Sindh Minimum Wage Board reiterated that male and female workers must receive equal wages for work of equal value.
Officials emphasised that employers are legally bound to comply with labour laws prohibiting gender-based wage discrimination. The provision aims to promote workplace equality and strengthen protection for workers across all sectors.
Relief for Workers
Labour representatives welcomed the revised wage rates, describing them as an important step towards protecting workers’ purchasing power.
The new minimum wage structure is expected to benefit thousands of workers employed in manufacturing, retail, services and other sectors across Sindh, while labour authorities are expected to monitor implementation to ensure compliance with the updated regulations.
