Sony Xperia 1 VI Receives Stable Android 16 Update

Sony’s 2024 flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VI, has started receiving its stable Android 16 update, marking another major milestone for the device.

The update, which carries the build number 69.2.A.2.30, is now rolling out across several European regions, including the United Kingdom, with a file size of approximately 850MB.

This rollout represents the second major software update for the Xperia 1 VI, following its upgrade to Android 15 last year. As per Sony’s update commitment, the device is expected to receive one more major update in the future, completing its promised software support cycle.

While Sony typically provides limited details in its update changelogs, early user reports shed light on what’s new. The Android 16 update introduces minor UI refinements, improved system stability, and performance optimizations.

Users on Reddit have also noted that the camera app has been updated to version 1.0.2.A.0.6, bringing smoother performance and better image processing. Additionally, the Settings menu now features a slightly refreshed design, aligning with Google’s latest Material You elements.

The update also includes the October 2025 Android security patch, enhancing overall system security and ensuring protection against newly discovered vulnerabilities.

The Sony Xperia 1 VI remains one of the company’s most premium smartphones, known for its 4K OLED display, cinema-grade color accuracy, and triple 48MP Exmor T camera system. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM, and is available in 256GB and 512GB storage variants. The device initially launched at around $1,750 (€841 in select European markets).
