Sui Southern Gas Company introduces three daily gas supply windows for households as winter demand rises, while SNGPL also imposes restrictions in Punjab, Islamabad and KP.
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced restricted gas supply timings for domestic consumers during the winter season, reducing the hours of availability amid growing pressure on the country’s gas supply system.
According to an announcement issued by the gas utility, domestic consumers will receive gas during three designated periods daily: 6:30am to 9am, 12pm to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm.
SSGC said it was committed to ensuring gas availability during household cooking hours in accordance with federal government instructions. The company added that prioritising domestic consumers remained a key part of its winter gas management strategy.
Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has also introduced gas load management for domestic consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Wednesday.
According to The News, the restrictions follow declining liquefied natural gas (LNG) availability and rising winter demand. SNGPL has also reduced gas supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector from 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 35 mmcfd, with a complete suspension being considered.
The cement industry has shifted to coal, while industrial consumers are also facing reduced supplies.
Industries connected directly to the transmission network are receiving around 200 mmcfd, while the power sector and fertiliser industry are receiving approximately 140 mmcfd and 53 mmcfd, respectively.
