Sweltering Heatwave Expected to Grip Karachi and Other Regions on October 2

Karachi, October 1, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted sweltering heatwave may continue to grip Karachi and various other parts of the country on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Residents are advised to prepare for extremely high temperatures as the city braces for another day of blistering heat.

On October 1, 2023, Karachi experienced hot and dry weather conditions, which are expected to persist in the coming days. The PMD’s weather forecast indicates that dry weather is likely to prevail over most regions of the country, with particularly hot conditions anticipated in the southern areas. However, there is a glimmer of hope for some relief as partly cloudy weather with the possibility of rain-thunderstorm activity is forecasted at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.

The synoptic situation described by the PMD reveals that continental air masses are currently dominating most parts of the country, contributing to the prevailing heatwave.

During the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather conditions prevailed across many parts of Pakistan, with temperatures soaring. Some of the recorded highest maximum temperatures for the day were as follows:

Lasbella: 41°C

Pasni: 41°C

Karachi: 40°C

Mithi: 40°C

Shaheed Benazirabad: 40°C

Turbat: 40°C

Residents of Karachi and other affected regions are urged to take necessary precautions to cope with the scorching heat. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and using appropriate sun protection measures. Vulnerable individuals should be especially careful during these extreme weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department continues to monitor the weather situation closely and provide regular updates to keep the public informed and safe. Stay tuned for further weather developments and take steps to stay cool and comfortable during this hot spell.
