Pakistan Met office issues thundershower alert from August 14
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday issued warnings of thundershower and urban flooding in various parts of the country.
In a statement, the Met Office informed a depression has developed in Arabian Sea which is likely to move towards west along Makran coast.
“Due to this weather system monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in southern parts of the country,” it added.

Another low pressure (LPA) is likely to approach Sindh on 16th August. Under the influence of this weather system:
• Rain-wind/thundershower (with few heavy falls) is expected in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir from 14th to 16th August with occasional gaps.
• Widespread rain-wind/thundershowers (with scattered heavy to very heavy falls) are expected in Sindh and Balochistan from 16th to 18th August with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts:
• Heavy Rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas from 14th to 18th August.
• Flash flooding is expected in Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Mosa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Jiwani, Ormara, Gwadar and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan during the forecast period from 14th to 18th August.

• Heavy Rains may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala on 14th (night) to 16th August.
• Flash flooding is expected in local Nullahs of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Shakargarh, Sialkot, Narowal, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Kashmir on 15th & 16th August.
• Rainfall may trigger landslides in Kashmir, hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer and Skardu during the forecast period.

• Fisherman are advised to remain more cautious from 16th to 18th August.
• Travelers and tourists are advised to remain more cautious during the forecast period.
The met office advised all the concerned authorities to remain alert and to take necessary precautionary measure during the forecast period.

Pakistan Met Department announces vacant posts, invites applications
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department has invited applications for 11 vacant posts, which should be applied by July 25, 2021.
Applications are invited for the following vacant posts:
Three assistant ministerial in grade 15
14 meteorological assistant in grade 14
Eight sub engineers (electronics) in grade 13
Six computer data entry operators in grade 12
Four upper division clerks in grade 11
Four lower division clerks in grade 9
14 senior observers in grade 9
One radio mechanic in grade 7
15 observers in grade 7
Two mechanic grade-II in grade 5
One tracer in grade 5
The department said that the recruitment shall be made in accordance with the recruitment policy conveyed by the Establishment Division vide O.M 53/1/2008-SP dated 22.10.2014 and 06.05.2020 as amended from time to time and for appointment in BPS 01 to BS-05 vide Notification dated 11.03.2020
Age relaxation will be admissible as per Establishment Division’s OM No. F.9/2/91 -R-3, dated 28.11.2000 and further age relaxation will also be admissible as per Establishment Division’s O.M No. 9/2/91 -R-5 dated 24.06.2010 and as per rules/regulations in vogue.

Alert issued for strong monsoon weather system during current week
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued high alert for all the authorities to remain vigilant as strong monsoon weather system likely to persist during the ongoing week.
In a statement the MET office said that strong monsoon weather system giving rains in the country is likely to persist during the week.
Under the influence of this weather system
Rain-wind-thundershower (with few heavy to very heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar and Layyah, Dir, Swat, Buner, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Waziristan, Kurrum, Bannu, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan, Gilgit-Baltistan (Ghizer, Astore, Diamer, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza Nagar, Ghanche and Kharmang) from Monday to Thursday.
Rain/wind-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdallah, Kohlu, Loralai, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Mastung, Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Harnai, Sukkar, Jaccobabad, Larkana, Khairpur, Tharparker, Sanghar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad and Karachi from Monday to Friday.
Possible Impacts:
Heavy rain may generate flash flooding in Local/Barsati Nullahs of Sialkot, Narowal, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Balochistan, Shangla, Buner, Batgram, Upper Swat, Kohistan and Kashmir from Monday to Wednesday
Urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar and Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin during the period.
Heavy rains may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa from Monday to Wednesday
Possibility of damaging effects due to wind-storm along the western boarder of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa.
Water level rise in the major rivers and improvement in water reservoirs.
