    Sensitive price inflation increases by 17.58pc

    KARACHI: The prices of essential items have registered 17.58 percent increase by week ended February 06, 2020 when compared with corresponding week last year, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

    According to the data the combined Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) increased by 17.58 percent by week ended February 06, 2020 as compared with the week ended February 07, 2019.

    As per the data the highest inflation for the period under review was recorded at 19.99 percent for the expenditure group ranging between Rs22.889 and Rs29.517.

    While the SPI was recorded at 16.18 percent for the period for expenditure group up to Rs17,732.

    The PBS computes the weekly SPI with base 2015-16= 100 covering 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

    ISLAMABAD: About 46 essential consumer items out of 51 have registered increase in prices during past one year showing the inflationary pressure on the masses.

    The inflation data based on Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) for the week ended January 01, 2020.

    The PBS calculates the weekly SPI with base 2015-16=100 covering 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups/quintiles and combined.

    The following is the comparison of price increase for the period between January 23, 2020 and January 24, 2019:

    02. Potatoes: 111.15 percent

    03. Pulse Moong (Washed): 88.52 percent

    04. Garlic (Lehsun) 1 Kg: 65.43 percent

    05. Tomatoes: 56.91 percent

    Essential items’ prices inflate for three consecutive weeks in April

    The prices of essential commodities have risen for the third consecutive week this month, signaling high headline inflation for April 2019. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) has consistently increased in the weeks ending April 4, 11, and 18, reflecting a challenging trend for consumers.

    Inflation for essential items rises by 11.9 percent

    ISLAMABAD: The prices of essential items have increased by 11.90 percent by week ended March 28, 2018 as compared with the same week last year.

    The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) – the barometer to gauge price movement of 53 essential items – showed that inflation had increased for all the income group from Rs8,000 / month to Rs35,000 per month and above.

    The income group falling between Rs18,001 to Rs35,000 faced inflationary pressure by 12.85 percent. Meanwhile the inflation for the income group Rs35,000 and above was recorded at 16.14 percent.

    However, the SPI based inflation fell 0.36 percent when compared with previous week.

    During the week ended March 28, 2019 the average prices of 20 items registered increase as compared with week ended March 21, 2019, which included: potatoes (6.5 percent); Onions (2.52 percent); Bananas (1.82 percent); Pulse Moong (washed) (1.47 percent) etc.

    However, average prices of nine items registered decline during the week under review, which included: tomatoes (32.57 percent); Eggs (6.78 percent); LPG cylinder (2.7 percent) etc.

    While average prices of 24 items were remained unchanged during the week.

    KARACHI: The prices of essential items increased by 11.72 percent by week ended March 07, 2019 when compared with the same week last year, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

    According to Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) all the income groups had witnessed inflation for the period.

    The PBS computes the weekly SPI with base 2007-2008=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups / quintiles and combined.

    The statistics have shown that price of tomatoes posted 308 percent growth to Rs128.42 per kilogram for the week under review as compared with Rs31.42/kg in the corresponding week of the last year.

    The price of LPG cylinder grew by 19 percent for the period. While prices of High Speed Diesel, Petrol and Kerosene Oil witnessed increase in their prices by 13.13 percent, 5.57 percent and 6.8 percent, respectively.

    ISLAMABAD: The inflation based on Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) has increased by 10.63 percent by the week ended February 28, 2019, as compared with the corresponding week a year ago, according to details released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

    The weekly SPI with base 2007-08=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups/quintiles and combined has been computed.

    According to the PBS, inflation increased by 7.40 percent over the year for the lower-income group up to Rs8,000.

    The detail of inflation for other income is: 7.63 percent for income group Rs8001-120000; Rs7.62 percent for income group Rs12001-18000; 11.57 percent for income group Rs18001-35000; and 14.93 percent for income group above Rs35000.

    The basic items which witnessed significant growth in prices over the year are included: telephone calls; high-speed diesel; washing soap; gas charges; fabric-cloth; cigarettes; red chilli; cooking oil etc.
