Pop superstar Taylor Swift has topped the nominations for the 2026 American Music Awards with eight nods, reinforcing her dominance in one of the music industry’s most prominent fan-voted award shows.

The 36-year-old singer, who already holds a record 40 AMA wins, leads this year’s list across major categories including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for The Life of a Showgirl, and Song of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia.

Swift is also nominated for Best Pop Song, Best Pop Album, Best Female Pop Artist, Song of the Summer for Elizabeth Taylor, and Best Music Video for The Fate of Ophelia.

Industry observers say Swift’s continued presence at the top of the nominations reflects her sustained commercial dominance and cultural influence, with fellow artist Raye recently suggesting that Swift’s only real competition is herself.

Close behind Swift in nominations are country artist Morgan Wallen, British singer Olivia Dean, pop star Sabrina Carpenter and rising act Sombr, each earning seven nominations. Lady Gaga and Alex Warren follow with six nods each.

Singer Justin Bieber received four nominations this year and remains in contention for additional career milestones, with analysts noting he could further close the gap on AMA records held by Michael Jackson.

This year’s nominations also highlight a new generation of artists breaking through. Dean and Sombr are both nominated in key categories, including New Artist of the Year, marking their continued rise after strong Grammy performances earlier in the year.

First-time nominees such as PinkPantheress, RAYE and Tate McRae reflect a broader generational shift in mainstream pop recognition, while Teyana Taylor also secured her first AMA nomination during a standout year across music and film.

The 2026 American Music Awards ceremony will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 25, hosted by Queen Latifah, and will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

Analysts say the nominations underline both the continued dominance of established global pop stars and the accelerating rise of newer voices reshaping the industry’s competitive landscape.
