The Odyssey becomes highest-grossing R-rated film of all time

Christopher Nolan’s epic has surpassed Deadpool & Wolverine at the global box office, while also becoming the director’s biggest film ever.

The Odyssey has achieved another major box-office milestone, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time just four weeks after its theatrical release.

The Christopher Nolan-directed epic has earned $1.352 billion worldwide, surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine, which finished its theatrical run with more than $1.338 billion globally.

The achievement also makes The Odyssey Nolan’s highest-grossing film to date. The movie has overtaken The Dark Knight Rises, which earned approximately $1.08 billion worldwide following its 2012 release.

Ryan Reynolds congratulates The Odyssey team

Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool and served as a creative force behind Deadpool & Wolverine, congratulated the cast and crew of Nolan’s latest film following the record-breaking achievement.

Reynolds celebrated the milestone on X, congratulating everyone involved with The Odyssey for taking the title of highest-grossing R-rated movie.

The record represents another major achievement for Nolan, whose films have consistently performed strongly at the global box office.

The Odyssey crosses $1.35 billion worldwide

Released in cinemas on July 17, The Odyssey has generated almost $516 million from the domestic market and approximately $835 million internationally.

The film has also become the fifth movie of the year to join the billion-dollar box-office club and the third R-rated film to reach the milestone.

Based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem The Odyssey, the film follows the legendary journey of Odysseus as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War.

The blockbuster features an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong’o.

With its worldwide total continuing to rise, The Odyssey could further extend its lead over Deadpool & Wolverine and cement its position among the biggest R-rated films in cinema history.
