Thundershower Forecasted for Upper Punjab on Friday, August 25

Islamabad, August 24, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thundershowers for upper Punjab on August 25, 2023.

In its latest weather report, the PMD has indicated that rain accompanied by wind and thundershowers is expected in several regions, including the Potohar region, Islamabad, Upper/Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir.

During this period, there is also a possibility of heavy rainfall occurring at isolated locations within the Potohar region, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Upper Punjab. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather conditions are anticipated in other parts of the country.

The PMD has noted that monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are making their way into the upper regions of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave has commenced affecting the upper and central parts of Pakistan.

Weather Highlights from the Past 24 Hours:

Over the last 24 hours, most parts of the country experienced hot and humid weather conditions. However, some areas received significant rainfall (in mm), including:

Punjab: Islamabad (Saidpur 37, Golra 23, Zero Point 17, Airport 16, Bokra 03), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 37, Chaklala 22), Mangla 20, Murree 04, Attock 03, Jhelum 01.

Kashmir: Kotli 13, Muzaffarabad (AP 08, City 07), Garhi Dupatta 04, Rawalakot 01.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Saidu Sharif 18, Balakot 16, Dir (Upper 10, Lower 08), Kakul, Buner 08, Pattan 06, Bannu, Malam Jabba 02, Cherat, Chitral 01.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Bagrote 11, Gupis 03, Chilas 02.

The highest recorded maximum temperatures (°C) for the day were in Bannu at 43°C, and Chilas and Bhakkar both at 42°C.

As weather conditions continue to evolve due to the influence of monsoon currents and the westerly wave, residents in the aforementioned regions, especially upper Punjab, are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as needed.
