Thunderstorm Warning Issued by PMD for Islamabad Today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a severe weather warning for Islamabad and several other regions in Pakistan. According to the latest forecast, a powerful thunderstorm is expected to hit the capital city today, Sunday, September 24, 2023.

In its daily weather report, the PMD has warned that several areas, including Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, are at risk of experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hail. Additionally, scattered showers may occur in parts of Punjab, the Potohar region, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Over the past 24 hours, Islamabad, Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan have already witnessed heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds and lightning. In contrast, other parts of the country have been experiencing warm and dry weather.

The PMD has recorded significant rainfall in various regions in the past 24 hours, with the highest amounts reported in Lahore. Some of the recorded rainfall figures in millimeters are as follows:

In addition, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded rainfall in several areas, with the highest figures in D.I. Khan (Airport 23, City 06), Malam Jabba 07, and Lower Dir 02. Gilgit-Baltistan also experienced rainfall, with Bagrot recording 02 millimeters and Astor recording 01 millimeter.

Furthermore, some areas in Pakistan have witnessed high temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Turbat recorded a scorching 42 degrees Celsius, while Sibi reported 41 degrees Celsius.

Residents of the affected regions are advised to exercise caution, stay indoors if possible, and avoid unnecessary travel during the thunderstorm. The PMD will continue to monitor the weather situation and issue updates as necessary to ensure the safety of the public.
