Islamabad, February 2, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms in many parts of the country on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
According to the PMD, rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with the possibility of snowfall over mountains, are expected in most regions, with isolated heavy falls and snowfall likely in Balochistan.
The weather outlook for Friday, February 2, 2024, anticipates rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with the likelihood of snowfall over mountains in Balochistan, Sindh, south Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir. The PMD warns of isolated heavy falls and snowfall specifically in Balochistan.
In response to the forecast, the PMD has issued a warning about the potential for heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs (streams) in Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Dalbandin, and Khuzdar on both February 2nd and 3rd.
Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD states that a westerly wave is currently affecting Baluchistan and upper Sindh and is expected to impact upper parts of the country starting tonight.
Over the past 24 hours, light rain and thunderstorms (with snow over mountains) occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northern Punjab, Murree, and Astore. Additionally, fog prevailed over some plain areas of south Punjab and upper Sindh.
The recorded rainfall (in millimeters) over the last 24 hours includes 02 mm in Balakot (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), 01 mm in Garhi Dupatta (Kashmir), and 01 mm in Astore (Gilgit-Baltistan). Snowfall (in inches) was recorded at 0.5 inches in Murree and 0.4 inches in Astore.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today (in degrees Celsius) include Kalam at -14, Leh at -12, Malam Jabba and Astore at -07, Gupis at -05, and Skardu and Rawalakot at -04.
