Paramount Pictures has officially confirmed a third installment in the “Top Gun” franchise, with Tom Cruise set to reprise his iconic role as Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, industry media reported.

The announcement was made during Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, signaling the studio’s confidence in extending one of its most successful film series. The project has been quietly in development since 2024 following the global success of “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Released decades after the original 1986 film, “Maverick” became a box office phenomenon, earning critical acclaim and revitalizing the franchise. Cruise returned to the cockpit 36 years after the original, portraying a veteran pilot tasked with training a new generation of aviators.

Among the new recruits was Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller, the son of Maverick’s late friend Goose. The sequel also featured performances from Glen Powell and Jennifer Connelly, blending new talent with established characters.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also set to return for the third installment, though details about the storyline, cast additions and production timeline remain undisclosed.

The previous film also carried emotional weight for fans, marking the final on-screen appearance of Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky before his death in 2025.

While Paramount has not announced a release date, the confirmation of “Top Gun 3” has already generated strong anticipation among audiences and industry observers, with expectations that the sequel will build on the legacy and commercial success of its predecessors.
