The upgraded facility at NIFSAT will promote industry-focused learning, research, internships and training in food safety, sustainability and emerging technologies.
The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Nestlé Pakistan Limited have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to upgrade the Nestlé Learning Resource Center at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFSAT).
The initiative aims to strengthen connections between academic education and practical industry requirements, particularly in food safety, quality management, processing, sustainability and emerging technologies.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali and Nestlé Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Jason Avancena signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Senior officials, deans, directors and representatives from both organisations attended the ceremony.
Learning Hub to Offer Industry-Focused Resources
Under the agreement, the centre will become a one-stop knowledge hub providing physical, digital and blended learning opportunities. Its areas of focus will include food processing, nutrition, health and wellness, regenerative agriculture, artificial intelligence, technology, sustainability and food quality.
The collaboration will also introduce six paid, eight-week internships for UAF students. Participants will work with Nestlé experts to gain practical experience and develop skills relevant to professional careers in the food industry.
Research and Laboratory Support
UAF and Nestlé Pakistan will also cooperate on research and development projects addressing current and emerging requirements of the food and dairy sectors.
The partnership will support improvements to relevant NIFSAT laboratories, including the Dairy Processing Hall. Technical assistance, training, equipment and other mutually agreed resources will be provided to strengthen research and practical learning facilities.
Seminars and Training Opportunities
The upgraded centre will facilitate seminars, workshops, lectures, technical training, industrial visits and research meetings involving UAF students, faculty, researchers and Nestlé technical personnel.
Its wider agenda will cover resource efficiency, water stewardship, waste reduction, circular economy practices, climate awareness, sustainable food systems, regulatory affairs, operations, research and supply chain management.
Focus on Future Food Industry Skills
Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said university-industry partnerships were important for preparing graduates for changing requirements in the food and dairy sectors.
Jason Avancena said Nestlé Pakistan remained committed to strengthening academic linkages and helping young professionals develop practical, industry-relevant competencies through exposure to contemporary food-sector practices.
