UEFA Approves Brighton, Toulouse, and Aston Villa

In a significant development, UEFA has granted approval to Brighton, Toulouse, and Aston Villa to partake in European competitions for the upcoming season.

Despite concerns surrounding the owners’ affiliations with other qualified clubs such as AC Milan, UEFA’s investigations concluded that the teams have implemented substantial changes to adhere to the multi-club ownership regulations.

These regulations were established 25 years ago to uphold the integrity of UEFA competitions and safeguard their fairness. Nevertheless, UEFA has placed specific restrictions on these clubs.

The partner clubs, namely Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise, Toulouse and Milan, and Villa and Vitória Guimarães, are prohibited from engaging in player transfers, including sales and loans, until the conclusion of the subsequent year’s summer transfer window. This limitation will remain in effect until September 2024.

This ruling directly impacts potential loan deals like the one involving Japanese forward Kaoru Mitoma, who was loaned from Brighton to Union during the 2021-22 season.

Furthermore, UEFA has declared that the involved clubs cannot establish any cooperation, joint technical or commercial agreements, or utilize shared scouting or player databases.
