The planned final Fast & Furious film is set to begin production after four years of script development
Vin Diesel has revealed that Fast Forever, the planned final instalment in the main Fast & Furious franchise, is expected to begin filming in December.
Diesel, who stars as Dominic Toretto and serves as a producer and creative force behind the long-running series, said the screenplay is now ready after four years of development.
Speaking to Variety at a 25th anniversary screening of The Fast and the Furious in Los Angeles on Monday, Diesel said production could begin within the coming months.
“We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio,” Diesel said.
The actor explained that the screenplay went through four sets of writers during four years of development before reaching a version he believed was worthy of bringing the franchise to a conclusion.
“I’m in a good place, though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, (I cried),” Diesel said.

During the anniversary screening, Diesel also shared his emotional reaction to the completed screenplay with the audience.
“After I read the script, halfway through, one tear,” he said.
“By the end of the script that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying. I couldn’t hold it back, and I had to tell everyone.”
Diesel added that his sister told him, “No more crying, bro.”
He then reflected on the emotional experience, saying that even the toughest people can have moments when they need to express their emotions.
Fast Forever brings franchise closer to finale
Diesel attended the event alongside Fast & Furious co-stars Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson.
Meadow Walker, the daughter of late actor Paul Walker, was also present at the 25th anniversary event.
Fast Forever is planned as the concluding film in the main Fast & Furious franchise and is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 17, 2028.
The film is expected to follow Fast X, which was released in 2023, making the upcoming instalment nearly five years after the previous mainline film.
The planned production marks another major step towards the conclusion of one of Hollywood’s longest-running action franchises.
