Volkswagen Unveils All-New Tiguan: Third Generation of Bestselling SUV

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the all-new Tiguan, marking the introduction of the third generation of this global bestseller. The Tiguan, revered as one of Volkswagen’s most successful models, has won over more than 7.6 million buyers worldwide since its initial launch in 2007. Enthusiasts can anticipate seeing the new model at dealerships as early as the first quarter of 2024.

The latest advancements in technology, realized through the MQB evo platform, bring substantial improvements to the Tiguan across the board. The introduction of new hybrid powertrains, boasting an impressive all-electric range of approximately 100 kilometers, makes this SUV more eco-friendly than ever before.

Moreover, AC charging will be quicker in all eHybrid variants, while fast DC charging becomes standard for the first time. A sleekly designed Digital Cockpit, based on the fourth-generation modular infotainment matrix (MIB4), delivers top-tier information and integrates digital services and apps seamlessly.

The user-friendly operating concept ensures an intuitive experience. Additionally, innovative features such as pneumatic massage-equipped front seats and IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, making their Tiguan debut, are inspired by the premium Touareg model.

The new adaptive chassis control DCC Pro enhances both comfort and driving dynamics. The latest Park Assist generation simplifies parking maneuvers significantly.

Striking Design & Enhanced Aerodynamics

The compact SUV boasts a completely revamped design, with a bold front characterized by slim LED headlights and a glass-covered horizontal strip. The air curtain-enhanced bumper positions radiator grille openings at the outer edges, optimizing airflow. Notably, the improved drag coefficient drops from 0.33 to 0.28, showcasing a more aerodynamic profile. The vehicle’s silhouette features muscular wheel arches, accommodating wheels of up to 20 inches, and a distinctive horizontal LED strip at the rear.

Next-Generation Cockpit and Infotainment System

Inside the Tiguan, a fresh concept and design greet passengers with high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The new cockpit layout is intuitive, seamlessly integrated, and exhibits a clean and intelligent design. Key elements include the Digital Cockpit with anti-reflective tablet-style digital instruments, an infotainment screen of up to 15 inches with a revamped menu structure and graphics, a new head-up display, and a multifunction driving experience switch featuring an integrated OLED display. The new IDA voice assistant allows natural language commands for various vehicle and infotainment functions.

Diverse Range of Efficient Drivetrains

Thanks to the MQB evo platform, the Tiguan can accommodate a variety of drivetrain options, including turbo diesel engines (TDI), turbo gasoline engines (TSI), mild hybrid turbo gasoline engines (eTSI), and plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid), exclusively available with automatic transmission (DSG). Similar to Volkswagen’s ID. models and the new Passat, gear selection is now managed via a steering column switch, providing a straightforward and user-friendly experience. Paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are standard across all Tiguan models.

Enhanced Running Gear for Superior Comfort and Dynamics

The MQB evo platform serves as the foundation for a revamped running gear generation, with the optional DCC Pro featuring two-valve shock absorbers. Additionally, the Tiguan now includes a standard Vehicle Dynamics Manager, an MQB system that debuted in the Golf GTI, regulating functions like electronic differential locks (XDS) and lateral dynamics components of the controlled shock absorbers in the DCC Pro system. These enhancements enhance comfort, stability, agility, and precision during dynamic cornering.

Comfortable Seating for Extended Journeys

The Tiguan offers ergoActive Plus seats featuring pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment and a 10-chamber pressure massage function, aligning perfectly with the vehicle’s premium character. An automatic activation feature for seat heating or ventilation based on outside temperatures further enhances passenger comfort.

Cutting-Edge IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix Headlights

The Tiguan introduces IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, marking a first for the MQB model lineup. This interactive lighting system, also developed for the premium-class Touareg, features High Definition (HD) lighting with an array of 38,400 multipixel LEDs (19,200 per headlight). These advanced headlights provide improved visibility, elevating both comfort and safety.

Comprehensive Assist Systems

The Tiguan comes equipped with an extensive array of standard convenience and assist systems, including Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, Rear View camera, and Dynamic Road Sign Display. An array of optional systems is also available, including Park Assist Pro with remote parking capability and Trailer Assist for easier trailer maneuvers.

Spacious Luggage Compartment

Despite only a slight increase in length, the new Tiguan maximizes its use of space with a larger luggage compartment. The cargo capacity of this new generation has grown by 37 liters to 652 liters (when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests).
