Winona Reflects on ‘Stranger Things’ Co-Stars’ Nostalgia Gap

Winona Ryder, beloved for her role as Joyce Byers on the hit series Stranger Things, recently opened up about a surprising experience she had with her younger co-stars as she prepares for the release of her next big project, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

In an exclusive interview, Ryder revealed a moment that left her both nostalgic and a little disheartened. The actress recounted how Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, who have grown up in the digital age, struggled to identify a vinyl record on the set of the Netflix series.

Their confusion sparked an emotional reaction from Ryder, who admitted, “I cried when I saw their puzzled faces.”

Reflecting on the experience, Ryder lamented the impact of social media and modern technology on today’s youth. “I just think that social media has changed everything, and I know I sound old. I’m very aware of that,” she acknowledged.

The actress, now in her 50s, mused humorously, “And part of me thinks, ‘Gosh, am I like vaudeville at this point?’ Like, ‘Hey, kids, turn down the music!’”

Winona Ryder also expressed deeper concerns about the younger generation’s dwindling attention span and how it might be affecting their appreciation for cinema. “I just think there was such an abundance—the history of film, the history of photography—it’s so rich, and there’s so much there,” she remarked.

While she emphasized that she doesn’t believe in reverting to the past, she voiced her hope that the next generation will take the time to study and appreciate the rich cultural heritage that has shaped the film industry.

As Winona Ryder looks forward to the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, scheduled to premiere on September 4, her reflections serve as a reminder of the ever-evolving landscape of entertainment and the importance of preserving its history.
