Redmi 17 4G and 5G feature 120Hz displays, 50MP cameras and 45W charging.
Xiaomi has launched its new Redmi 17 series, introducing two models — the Redmi 17 4G and Redmi 17 5G — as successors to last year’s Redmi 15 series.
The two smartphones share an identical design and many of the same specifications, while their main differences come in connectivity, chipsets and storage technology.
Redmi 17 series specifications
Both the Redmi 17 4G and Redmi 17 5G feature 6.9-inch IPS LCD displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, unlike their predecessors, the new models use a 1600 x 720-pixel resolution instead of the Full HD panels found on the previous generation.
One of the biggest highlights of the Redmi 17 series is its 7,500mAh battery. Both models support 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing users to use the smartphones as a power source for compatible devices.
The Redmi 17 4G is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra chipset, while the 5G model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor.
Both smartphones are available with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. However, the Redmi 17 4G uses slower eMMC 5.1 storage, while the 5G variant features faster UFS 2.2 storage.
Redmi 17 cameras and features
The Redmi 17 series features the same camera setup on both models, including a 50MP main rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Xiaomi has also equipped both smartphones with a programmable RGB light on the rear. The light can display incoming notifications and system status alerts, adding a distinctive visual element to the devices.
Other shared features include IP64 ingress protection, NFC support, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Redmi 17 4G and 5G prices
The Redmi 17 4G is available in Black, Deep Blue, Lotus Purple and Oak Green colour options. It starts at MYR 669 in Malaysia, equivalent to around $163.
The Redmi 17 5G comes in Black, Deep Blue and Vivid Orange. Its starting price is MYR 769, or approximately $188.
With large batteries, 120Hz displays and affordable starting prices, the Redmi 17 series is positioned as a budget-focused smartphone lineup offering a mix of long battery life and modern connectivity.
