YouTube has increased the price of its Premium subscription service in the United States, making the ad-free video experience more expensive for users. The new pricing has already taken effect for new subscribers, while existing customers will start paying the higher rates from early June.
Under the updated pricing structure, the individual YouTube Premium plan now costs $15.99 per month, up from the previous $13.99. The annual subscription has also increased to $159.99, compared to the earlier price of $139.99. This change means users who want uninterrupted access to videos and additional features will now have to pay more for the service.
The family plan, which allows multiple users within the same household to share a single subscription, has also seen a significant increase. Its price has risen to $26.99 per month, compared with the earlier cost of $22.99. Meanwhile, the student plan has been adjusted from $7.99 to $8.99 per month, offering a discounted option for eligible students.
In addition to the main Premium plans, YouTube has also raised the price of YouTube Premium Lite, which was recently relaunched. The Lite version now costs $8.99 per month, up from $7.99. However, the Lite plan offers fewer features compared to the full Premium subscription.
The standard YouTube Premium plan provides several benefits, including an ad-free viewing experience, the ability to play videos in the background, offline downloads, and full access to YouTube Music. These features make it attractive to users who regularly consume content on the platform.
By contrast, YouTube Premium Lite focuses mainly on reducing ads on regular videos but does not include access to YouTube Music. It may still display advertisements on music videos, YouTube Shorts, and search results, making it a more limited alternative for users looking for a cheaper option.
The latest price increase reflects YouTube’s ongoing strategy to grow its subscription revenue while continuing to expand its premium offerings. For many users, the decision will now come down to whether the added convenience of ad-free viewing and extra features is worth the higher monthly cost.
