The new feature, known as “Player for Education,” enables creators to earn revenue when their videos are used in schools and educational platforms — without relying on traditional ad placements.

Under this model, YouTube collaborates with educational partners who pay a fee to use ad-free content in classrooms.

A portion of that payment is then shared with content creators, making it a fresh income stream for those producing tutorials, how-to videos, and explainer content. The amount earned depends on how much time viewers spend engaging with the content.

To support creators using this model, YouTube has added a new “Player for Education” tab in the YouTube Studio app. This tab provides detailed insights into how much creators are earning from the education-focused feature, helping them analyze which types of content perform best in educational settings.

This initiative marks a strategic shift towards supporting creators who specialize in knowledge-sharing. With over $70 billion paid to creators over the past three years, YouTube continues to diversify its monetization options, making education a central focus of its growth strategy.

The announcement follows a wave of updates rolled out by YouTube during its 20th anniversary. Among the notable changes is a new 4x playback speed feature, available exclusively for YouTube Premium users, allowing faster video consumption.

Additionally, the platform introduced “Ask Music”, an AI-powered tool enabling users to create personalized radio stations through voice input.
