YouTube, YouTube Music may adopt Apple’s Liquid Glass design on iOS

iOS apps could soon receive Apple-inspired visual changes alongside Live Activities support.

YouTube and YouTube Music could soon adopt Apple’s Liquid Glass design on iOS, bringing one of the defining visual elements of the latest iPhone software to Google’s popular apps.

The potential update was spotted in newly discovered feature flags shared by MacRumors analyst Aaron Perris on X. Although the screenshot does not clearly identify which app the flags belong to, Perris reportedly indicated that both YouTube and YouTube Music are expected to receive Liquid Glass support.

Apple introduced Liquid Glass as a major part of its latest iOS design language, using translucent elements, layered interfaces and dynamic visual effects throughout the operating system. While the design has received mixed reactions, it remains a central part of Apple’s software experience and is increasingly being adopted by third-party developers.

The possible YouTube update would bring the Google-owned apps closer to the visual style of iOS. Google has already incorporated elements of Liquid Glass into some of its other iOS applications, including Chrome and Gemini, although several major apps such as Gmail and Google Maps have yet to receive similar changes.

The newly discovered feature flags also indicate that YouTube and YouTube Music could gain support for Live Activities. Apple’s Live Activities feature allows compatible apps to display continuously updated information on the iPhone’s Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

The exact purpose of Live Activities in YouTube remains unclear. One possibility is that the feature could be connected to sports coverage through YouTube TV, potentially allowing users to follow live scores or other updates directly from the Dynamic Island. However, Google has not officially confirmed this functionality.

Since the Liquid Glass integration has only been spotted through feature flags, there is currently no confirmed release date or indication of exactly how the redesigned interfaces will look.

The development nevertheless suggests that Google is continuing to adapt its major iOS applications to Apple’s evolving design framework. While Liquid Glass adoption remains limited among Android apps, several third-party applications on iOS are increasingly incorporating the new visual language.
