Apple App Store Ecosystem Reaches Record $1.4 Trillion in Developer Billings and Sales

IT & Telecom

Apple has announced that its App Store ecosystem facilitated more than $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales during 2025, marking a new milestone for the company’s digital marketplace. According to a study conducted by Analysis Group economists, the App Store ecosystem has nearly tripled in size since 2019, highlighting its growing importance for developers and businesses worldwide.

The company also revealed that more than 90% of the billings and sales generated through the App Store ecosystem involved no commission paid to Apple, allowing developers to retain a larger share of their earnings.

AI-Powered Apps Lead Growth in 2025

Artificial intelligence emerged as a major growth driver across the App Store in 2025. Apple reported that more than 40 of the top 100 apps featured consumer-facing AI capabilities, with these applications recording four times faster billing growth than other leading apps.

From personalized fitness recommendations and advanced photo editing tools to AI-enhanced productivity software, developers are increasingly integrating intelligent features to improve user experiences. Apple’s Foundation Models framework and Apple Intelligence technologies are helping developers build privacy-focused AI tools that can work both online and offline.

Physical Goods and Services Dominate Revenue

The largest share of App Store-related transactions came from physical goods and services, which generated approximately $1.1 trillion in sales during 2025. Categories such as grocery delivery, food services, retail shopping, and travel contributed significantly to this growth.

Meanwhile, digital goods and services generated $149 billion, driven by gaming, enterprise software, and video streaming applications. In-app advertising also remained a major revenue source, accounting for $151 billion in developer earnings.

Global User Base Continues to Expand

Apple said the App Store attracted more than 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions. Consumers increasingly relied on apps for shopping, productivity, health management, entertainment, and communication.

Regional growth remained strong, with App Store billings and sales more than doubling in China and more than tripling in both the United States and Europe over the past six years.

Apple Expands Support for Developers

Apple continues to invest heavily in developer tools, educational programs, and infrastructure. The company hosted thousands of developers through its centers in the United States, China, India, and Singapore, while a new developer center is scheduled to open in Berlin later this year.

Looking ahead, Apple is expected to unveil new developer tools, APIs, and technologies at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), further strengthening opportunities for app creators worldwide.
