Apple Elevates Developer Academy Curriculum with AI Training

Apple has unveiled a major enhancement to its Developer Academy curriculum, announcing that all students and mentors will receive training in cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and tools.

This innovative initiative will also extend to alumni, broadening educational opportunities to thousands across 18 Developer Academies in six countries. This move underscores Apple’s dedication to nurturing talent in the burgeoning iOS app economy and beyond, equipping developers, designers, and entrepreneurs with the skills needed to excel in the digital landscape.

The dedicated AI curriculum will now be a central feature of the academy’s comprehensive program, which already encompasses essential competencies in coding, professional skills, design, and marketing. By integrating AI training, Apple aims to empower students with the knowledge to make impactful contributions to their local businesses and communities. The curriculum will also emphasize Apple’s core values, promoting inclusive design and positive global impact.

“At Apple, we see coding as a universal language and believe in empowering developers, creators, and entrepreneurs worldwide with tools and technologies that enable them to create phenomenal experiences,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “With the introduction of AI-dedicated curriculum, we’re excited to see what students will build and share with their communities and the world.”

Starting this fall, Apple Developer Academy students will benefit from a custom-built curriculum designed to teach the building, training, and deployment of machine learning models on Apple devices. The courses will cover the fundamentals of AI technologies and frameworks, including Core ML, which delivers high-performance machine learning capabilities on Apple devices. Students will engage in project-based assignments and receive guidance from hundreds of mentors and over 12,000 academy alumni worldwide.

This new AI curriculum coincides with the rollout of new Apple technologies and APIs announced at WWDC24, providing students with access to advanced tools for exceptional project and app development. These include Xcode 16, which enhances developer productivity, and Swift Assist, which supports coding tasks and allows for experimentation with new frameworks. Additionally, Swift 6 offers new features aimed at improving code clarity and simplifying concurrent programming.

Apple’s comprehensive educational journey begins with the fundamentals of app development in the global Foundations program, advances through the Developer Academies, and culminates in the ability to bring innovative apps to market. This initiative ensures that Apple supports students at every stage, preparing them to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological world.

By integrating AI training into its curriculum, Apple is not only fostering a new generation of tech-savvy professionals but also reinforcing its position at the forefront of technological education and innovation.
