Karachi, April 19, 2025 – In a move to encourage foreign inflows, the government of Pakistan has introduced substantial relief on remittances in the form of duty allowance for overseas Pakistanis who send money back home through official banking channels. The initiative aims to reward remitters by offering duty credit allowances tied to the amount remitted.
Under the current policy, individuals who hold Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI) cards are eligible to receive a special allowance in the form of duty credits, depending on their remittance volume. This incentive structure benefits cardholders who remit their earnings in US dollars or the equivalent in any other foreign currency through legal, traceable means.
For remittances of $50,000 or more, Pakistan grants a maximum allowance of Rs200,000 in duty credit to platinum card holders. These credits can be used to pay duties on imported goods, offering significant savings and benefits to overseas Pakistanis.
The duty allowance structure for cardholders is as follows:
• Silver Card Holders: Remit $2,500 or more to receive Rs20,000 in duty credit.
• Silver Plus Card Holders: Remit $5,000 or more to earn Rs40,000 in duty credit.
• Golden Card Holders: Remit $10,000 or more to claim Rs60,000.
• Golden Plus Card Holders: Remit $25,000 or more and get Rs100,000.
• Platinum Card Holders: Remit $50,000 or more to qualify for the maximum Rs200,000.
This incentive, introduced by Pakistan, is part of broader efforts to attract remittances via legal banking channels and to reduce reliance on informal methods such as hundi and hawala. The allowance serves as both a reward and an encouragement for overseas Pakistanis to contribute to the national economy.
By supporting this initiative, Pakistan aims to strengthen foreign reserves, reduce trade deficits, and boost economic stability while providing tangible benefits to its global diaspora.
