Islamabad, November 13, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that dense fog will drape much of Punjab in a soft, silvery veil on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
As winter takes hold, the fog is expected to settle over the plains and highways, turning landscapes into scenes of mystery and muffling the bustling sounds of the day.
According to the PMD, Thursday’s weather will bring cloudy skies and chilly winds across Pakistan’s northern regions. Rain with thunderstorm activity, and even snowfall over high-altitude peaks, is anticipated to grace areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, isolated showers may bless parts of lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab as the evening hours deepen into night. While much of Punjab will feel the grip of lingering smog during the day, dense fog is expected to descend in the morning and evening, creating enchanting, albeit challenging, conditions for commuters.
A delicate westerly wave hovers over northern Pakistan, and this subtle atmospheric shift will likely strengthen, enveloping much of the upper region by tomorrow evening. Continental air sweeps across the country, adding to the dry, crisp feel in most areas while giving rise to colder nights, particularly in the highlands.
For today, Wednesday, November 13, the PMD expects predominantly dry weather in the country’s plains and foothills, while a refreshing chill is already creeping into the mountainous regions. Northern locales such as Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience isolated showers, with the chance of snow blanketing the high-altitude peaks, transforming them into glistening realms of winter beauty. Smog and dense fog will continue to hold sway over Punjab’s plains, casting an ethereal haze as night falls and dawn rises again.
In the past 24 hours, the PMD reported dry conditions in most regions, with chilly weather embracing the hills. Smog and a persistent fog lay like a quiet shroud across Punjab’s plains, softening the landscape and signaling the transition toward winter.
As temperatures dip further, some areas saw their lowest minimum readings, with Leh at -4°C and Skardu and Kalat at a freezing 0°C, marking the arrival of the season’s icy embrace. The PMD advises travelers and early commuters to take caution during the foggy hours, as the dense fog carpeting Punjab will bring beauty and calm, but also a need for extra vigilance.
