First President PGA Open Golf Championship Concludes with Shahzad’s Victory

The first-ever President PGA Open Golf Championship concluded with a thrilling finale after three rounds of intense competition at the picturesque Pakistan Air Force Skyview Golf and Country Club Golf Course.

This highly anticipated event brought together the nation’s top 100 professional golfers, who showcased their skills on a meticulously prepared course, thanks to the unwavering support of Air Cdre Imran Pervaiz, Sqn Ldr Muhammed Faizan, and their dedicated team.

After two fiercely competitive rounds, the field was narrowed down to 54 professionals who vied for victory in the final round on July 12.

The spotlight was on two exceptional players: Muhammed Shabbir Iqbal from Islamabad Golf Club, a seasoned golfer with an impressive record of 200 titles, and the promising talent Muhammed Shahzad from Lahore Garrison Greens Golf Club.

While Shabbir was initially considered the likely winner, both players demonstrated exceptional skills in the final round. Shabbir finished with an outstanding score of 66, closely followed by Shahzad with a marvelous score of 67.

This led to a thrilling tie, as both players concluded the championship at an impressive 10 under par, with an aggregate score of 206.

To determine the ultimate winner, a sudden death playoff unfolded, showcasing the extraordinary abilities of these talented golfers. The first four holes ended in a tie, keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats.

It was on the fifth hole that Shahzad secured an advantage with a masterful approach shot, ultimately securing a birdie, while Shabbir settled for a bogey. This remarkable victory marked a memorable moment for Mohammad Shahzad, with his mentor and playing partner, Col Rustam Chatta, embracing him in celebration.

In addition to the thrilling professional events, the tournament awarded cash prizes to the top three players in the Professional Section, Senior Professional Section, and Junior Professional Section.

As the professional competitions came to a close, the stage is set for the next three days of exciting competitions, including amateurs, senior amateurs, and ladies, at the prestigious PAF Skyview Golf Course.
