Ford Mustang GT3 Enters FIA GT3 Category for Global Competition

Ford has officially introduced the Ford Mustang into the esteemed FIA GT3 category with an impressive race car derived from the Mustang Dark Horse model. Scheduled to commence its global racing journey in 2024, the Mustang GT3 showcases an eye-catching and exhilarating new race livery designed by renowned motorsports expert Troy Lee, featuring the iconic Ford Performance logo.

Ford Performance has fostered strong alliances with Multimatic and M-Sport, which played integral roles in the production of the iconic Ford GT.

These partners will contribute to the development and support of the Mustang GT3s. M-Sport, a two-time championship-winning team in the World Rally Championship, will assemble the Ford Performance-developed 5.4-liter Coyote-based V8 engines that power this high-performance pony.

Proton Competition has become the first customer team to officially express their intent to enter the 2024 World Endurance Championship season and the illustrious 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Mustang.

The esteemed Ford Mustang GT3 will rise to the challenge of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2024, affirming its position as the most renowned sports car participating in this iconic endurance race.

Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports, expressed his confidence in the project, stating, “For a project like the Mustang GT3, we turned to two of our most trusted partners in the motorsports world to help bring this vehicle and program together. I am certain that Ford fans will share our excitement as Mustang competes at the highest levels of GT racing in 2024.”

The Mustang GT3 race car is equipped with a bespoke short-long arm suspension, a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, lightweight carbon fiber body panels, and a specially designed aerodynamic package tailored to meet GT3 specifications.

Proton Competition has been unveiled as the inaugural customer team for the Mustang GT3. Hailing from Ehingen, Germany, Proton intends to field a pair of Mustang GT3s in the FIA World Endurance Championship, commencing from 2024.

Christian Ried, the team principal of Proton Competition, expressed the significance of this program, stating, “This is a very important program and an exciting moment for our organization. The Mustang is a great brand, and this is an important step for our team. We look forward to joining forces with Ford in 2024.”

Additionally, Ford Performance will field a factory race program with two Mustang GT3 cars in the GTD Pro class of the IMSA series. Multimatic Motorsports will oversee the management of this program, which will commence at the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
