Google is expanding the reach of its Gemini AI assistant by integrating it into the side panels of its major platforms, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Starting today, Gemini will also be available in Gmail, enhancing the email experience with advanced AI-powered features.
Gemini utilizes the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which boasts a longer context window and more sophisticated reasoning capabilities. This allows it to perform a variety of tasks, such as summarizing email threads, suggesting responses, drafting emails, and conducting smart searches for specific information within emails.
For instance, users can ask Gemini questions like “What was the PO number for my agency?” or “When is the next team meeting?” and receive immediate responses without leaving Gmail. This feature aims to streamline workflow and increase productivity by reducing the need to switch between different applications.
Starting today, Gemini can also be used in the Gmail app on Android and iOS to analyze email threads, providing a summarized view with key highlights. This feature is particularly useful for users who need to quickly scan through long email threads on smaller screens.
In addition to this, Google plans to introduce Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A features for mobile devices soon.
The full rollout of Gemini begins today. However, it is important to note that access is currently limited to Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, and Google One AI Premium.
By integrating Gemini into Gmail and other major platforms, Google aims to help users save time and enhance their productivity. With its advanced AI capabilities, Gemini is set to become an indispensable tool for managing emails and other tasks more efficiently.
