Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain-wind and thunderstorms in Islamabad during the next 24 hours as a westerly weather system approaches northern parts of the country.
According to the PMD weather advisory issued on Sunday, hot and dry conditions are expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas during the daytime. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind and thunderstorms is likely during the evening and night hours.
For Monday, the weather department predicted partly cloudy conditions with chances of rain and thunderstorms in Islamabad and nearby areas.
Westerly wave to affect northern areas
The PMD said a westerly wave is expected to enter the northwestern parts of the country from Sunday evening or night. Meanwhile, high pressure in the upper atmosphere is likely to keep daytime temperatures above normal in southern and central parts of Pakistan until May 11.
Weather outlook across Pakistan
Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on Sunday, while very hot conditions are likely in south Punjab, upper Sindh, and eastern and southern Balochistan.
However, isolated rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas during evening and night hours.
On Monday, most parts of the country are expected to remain hot and dry, while very hot weather may persist in Sindh and southern Balochistan.
The PMD also warned that isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms may occur in Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the forecast period.
Highest temperatures recorded
During the last 24 hours, weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the country, with southern districts experiencing extreme heat.
The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Saturday were 46 degrees Celsius in Sakrand and Dadu.
Other cities including Nokundi, Jacobabad, Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana recorded temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius.
