Lotte Chemical commissions 6.5MWp captive solar plant

New renewable energy project aims to cut electricity costs, improve profitability and support the company’s long-term sustainability goals.

KARACHI: Lotte Chemical Pakistan Limited has successfully commissioned a 6.5-megawatt peak (MWp) captive solar power plant, marking a significant milestone in its strategy to reduce energy costs, improve operational efficiency and strengthen its commitment to sustainable industrial operations.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday, the company confirmed the successful completion and commissioning of the solar facility.

Lotte Chemical said the investment represents an important step towards achieving its objective of significantly lowering electricity costs by increasing its reliance on renewable energy.

Lower energy costs and stronger profitability

According to the company, the captive solar power plant will substantially reduce its dependence on costly grid electricity, helping to lower operating expenses and improve overall profitability.

The company said the project is expected to enhance its long-term competitive position by reducing exposure to rising energy tariffs while supporting more efficient manufacturing operations.

The investment forms part of Lotte Chemical’s broader strategy to optimise energy consumption and create sustainable value for shareholders.

Commitment to sustainability

Lotte Chemical said the solar project also demonstrates its commitment to environmentally responsible industrial practices by reducing its carbon footprint and increasing the share of clean energy in its operations.

The company believes the investment will contribute to its long-term sustainability objectives while supporting Pakistan’s transition towards greater use of renewable energy.

Growing trend among manufacturers

The commissioning comes at a time when industrial companies across Pakistan are accelerating investments in captive solar and other renewable energy projects to mitigate rising electricity costs and improve operational resilience.

Higher grid electricity tariffs and increasing energy expenses have encouraged manufacturers to diversify their energy sources, reduce operating costs and strengthen competitiveness through renewable power generation.

Industry analysts expect this trend to continue as businesses seek greater energy security, improved cost efficiency and progress towards environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives.
