Pakistan, Iran Activate Joint Transport Committee to Strengthen Trade Links

Both countries agree on priority measures to resolve transport and border logistics issues for enhanced regional connectivity.

Pakistan and Iran have agreed to fully activate the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee and implement coordinated measures to address transport and logistics challenges, aiming to strengthen bilateral trade and improve regional connectivity.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday between Iran’s Minister of Roads, Urban Development and Transport, Farzaneh Sadegh, and a Pakistani delegation led by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan.

The discussions focused on expanding economic cooperation, improving connectivity infrastructure, and facilitating smoother cross-border trade between the neighboring countries.

The Pakistani delegation included Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. Senior officials from both countries also participated in the meeting.

During the talks, Abdul Aleem Khan expressed satisfaction over the restoration of peace and stability in the region and appreciated the resilience demonstrated by the Iranian people.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening road and rail networks between Pakistan and Iran, describing efficient land connectivity as a key driver for increasing trade volumes and unlocking new economic opportunities.

Both sides reviewed a range of proposals aimed at improving transport infrastructure and streamlining logistics operations.

They agreed to fully operationalize the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee to ensure effective coordination and timely resolution of transport-related matters.

The communications minister assured the Iranian delegation that Pakistan would prioritize efforts to address outstanding transport and logistics issues affecting trade and movement between the two countries.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to facilitating smoother cross-border operations and enhancing regional integration.

Farzaneh Sadegh acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in helping reduce regional tensions and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace. She expressed

Iran’s appreciation for Pakistan’s cooperation and support, describing the relationship between the two nations as one built on mutual trust and brotherhood.

The Iranian minister also raised concerns regarding the clearance of trucks and containers at border crossings. In response, both countries agreed to undertake joint initiatives for the swift resolution of border-related challenges and improve the efficiency of trade corridors.

The activation of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee is expected to enhance bilateral trade, facilitate cargo movement, and strengthen economic ties between the two neighboring countries while promoting broader regional connectivity.
