Pakistan Weather Forecast for Monday, August 26, 2024

Islamabad, August 25, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted severe weather conditions for Monday, August 26, 2024, predicting heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms across several regions of the country.

Expected Weather Conditions:

The Pakistan Met has warned of widespread rain and windstorms, expecting heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, eastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Southeastern Sindh is particularly at risk, with a significant threat of torrential rains and potential pluvial flooding in low-lying areas from Sunday night through Monday.

Residents of these regions are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions, as the strong winds and heavy rains could pose serious risks to life and property. The Pakistan Met has highlighted concerns about damage to weak structures such as roofs, walls, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels due to gusty winds and thunderstorms. Emergency services and local authorities have been alerted to remain on standby to respond to any incidents arising from the severe weather conditions.

Synoptic Situation:

The current weather pattern is being influenced by a low-pressure system approaching southeastern Sindh, which is drawing strong monsoon currents into the southern parts of Pakistan. This system is expected to intensify, causing the adverse weather conditions forecasted for Monday. The PMD is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as needed.

Weather Outlook for Sunday, August 25, 2024:

Ahead of the expected severe weather, most parts of Pakistan will experience hot and humid conditions on Sunday. However, isolated showers, windstorms, and thunderstorms are anticipated in Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eastern Balochistan, eastern Punjab, the Pothohar region, and Kashmir. The PMD has urged people in these areas to remain vigilant and prepare for potential disruptions.

Rainfall in the Past 24 Hours:

Over the past 24 hours, several regions have already experienced significant rainfall. Sindh recorded the highest rainfall, with Mithi receiving 29 mm, followed by Mirpurkhas at 12 mm. Other areas with notable rainfall include Hyderabad Airport with 5 mm, Chhor with 3 mm, Lasbella in Balochistan with 12 mm, Rawalakot in Kashmir with 4 mm, and Lahore Airport in Punjab with 2 mm. These rainfall figures suggest that the weather system is already impacting various parts of the country.

Highest Recorded Temperatures:

In addition to the rain, temperatures have also remained high across much of the country. The highest maximum temperatures were recorded in Nokkundi and Sibbi, reaching 42°C and 41°C, respectively. These hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in many areas until the rain arrives.

As Pakistan braces for the upcoming severe weather, the PMD urges the public to stay updated on the latest forecasts and take all necessary precautions. Authorities have been advised to implement emergency response measures to minimize the impact of the adverse weather on affected communities.
