The PMD has issued a warning regarding Cyclonic Storm (CS) “ASNA” (pronounced as As-Na), which has moved further west-southwest over the past six hours. The storm is currently located at approximately Latitude 23.3 N and Longitude 64.5 E, around 300 km southwest of Karachi, 230 km south-southwest of Ormara, and 300 km southeast of Gwadar. It is expected to continue moving west-southwestward, affecting the weather conditions in the surrounding regions.

Impact of Cyclonic Storm “ASNA”:

Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm “ASNA,” the following weather conditions are expected:

• Rain and Wind: Rain-thundershowers with heavy falls, accompanied by squally winds reaching speeds of 60-70 km/hour, are likely in the Hub, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, and Gwadar districts of Balochistan until tomorrow night.

• Waterlogging: Heavy rains may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas along the Makran coast.

• Warnings for Fishermen: Fishermen in Balochistan are advised to avoid venturing into the open sea until tonight due to the storm’s impact.

Potential Flooding:

Starting September 1, torrential rains associated with Cyclonic Storm “ASNA” may cause pluvial flooding and inundation in low-lying areas of southern Balochistan. There is also a risk of flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, Mastung, and Lasbella districts. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautionary measures to stay safe during this period.

Synoptic Situation:

The synoptic situation indicates that Cyclonic Storm “ASNA” continues to move west-southwestward. The system’s current position remains at a distance of about 300 km southwest of Karachi, 230 km south-southwest of Ormara, and 300 km southeast of Gwadar. The storm is expected to track further west-southwestward in the coming hours.

• Sunday: Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan. However, rain and wind/thundershowers are likely at isolated locations in southern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby hilly areas. Makran may experience heavy rain, windstorms, and thundershowers during the day.

• Monday: The forecast remains similar, with mainly hot and dry conditions in most areas. However, rain and wind/thundershowers are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Punjab. Isolated heavy falls may occur in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Potohar region during the evening or night.

Weather Summary for the Past 24 Hours:

Rain, wind, and thundershowers were reported at isolated locations in southern Sindh, southern Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Notable rainfall measurements included 20 mm in Thatta, 12 mm in Ormara, and 7 mm in Karachi (Korangi). The highest maximum temperatures recorded yesterday were in Turbat (40°C), Peshawar (39°C), and Nokundi (39°C).
