Pakistan’s National Assembly Dissolves as President Approves

Islamabad, August 10, 2023 – President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday August 9, 2023 late night endorsed the summary for the dissolution of Pakistan’s National Assembly on Wednesday, based on Article 58(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.

The President’s Secretariat Press Wing affirmed that the President’s approval for the National Assembly’s dissolution was made in line with the advice given by the Prime Minister, according to a press release.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the coalition partners for displaying maturity, dedication, loyalty, and sincerity in fostering economic stability in the country. During a Cabinet meeting, he emphasized the significance of national unity, highlighting its role in driving socio-economic progress.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the political leadership’s collective efforts to overcome crises by setting aside political differences. Despite having the shortest tenure in the country’s history, the coalition government endeavored to serve the people.

The Prime Minister highlighted the challenge of flash floods that impacted many regions, particularly Sindh and Balochistan. He praised the coordinated response of federal and provincial governments in managing the calamitous situation. Various institutions, including the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), contributed significantly to the rehabilitation process.

He extended gratitude to Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman, Minister for Economic Affairs Ayaz Sadiq, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Minister for BISP Shazia Marri for their collaborative efforts during the rehabilitation process in flood-affected areas.
