PMD Forecasts Rain for Sindh on May 6, 2025

Islamabad, May 5, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall and thunderstorms for parts of southeastern Sindh on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, as changing weather patterns begin to affect southern regions of the country.

According to the PMD, while most areas across Pakistan are expected to experience predominantly hot and dry conditions, isolated rain-wind or thunderstorms may develop in parts of southeastern Sindh, Kashmir, and nearby regions during the afternoon hours. The PMD has also warned that some areas in southeastern Sindh may witness heavy rainfall during this period.

For Monday night, May 5, the PMD expects partly cloudy skies across much of the country, with chances of rain-wind or thunderstorms in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Balochistan, and again in southeastern Sindh. The PMD has indicated that the synoptic situation includes moist currents penetrating southern Pakistan, especially Sindh, while a westerly wave continues to influence weather patterns in various regions.

The department emphasized that this combination of moist air and western disturbances may enhance the likelihood of localized downpours in southeastern Sindh. Residents and local authorities in Sindh are advised to remain cautious of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas, especially if heavy rainfall occurs in quick succession.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in most of the country. However, isolated rain-windstorms or thunderstorms were reported in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, upper Sindh, northeastern Balochistan, and Kashmir. Notably, the PMD recorded minor rainfall in Sindh, including 2 mm in Khairpur and 1 mm in Jacobabad.

Rainfall totals elsewhere included 38 mm in Noorpur Thal and 28 mm in Sargodha. The hottest places in the country on Monday were Turbat at 45°C, followed by Nokundi and Dalbandin, both at 40°C.

As the forecast continues to evolve, the PMD advises residents in Sindh—particularly in the southeastern districts—to stay informed through official weather updates. With shifting weather conditions and increasing moisture in the air, further developments in the PMD’s forecasts for Sindh are expected over the next 24 to 48 hours.
