PMD Issues Very Hot Weather Alert for June 13

PkRevenue.com — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a very hot weather alert for the plain areas of the country, warning of significantly higher temperatures on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

According to the PMD, most plain regions will experience temperatures 2°C to 4°C above normal, with particularly intense heat expected in central and southern parts.

The alert emphasizes the necessity for the general public to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses. The PMD’s daily weather forecast for Thursday predicts predominantly hot and dry conditions across the nation, with exceptionally high temperatures in central and southern Pakistan. However, some relief may come in the form of partly cloudy weather and potential rain-wind/thunderstorms at isolated locations in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the evening or night.

The synoptic situation outlined by the PMD indicates that continental air is currently dominating most parts of the country. Additionally, a trough of shallow westerly wave is anticipated to enter the western and upper regions of Pakistan from the evening or night of June 13. This development may bring slight weather changes and potential rainfall in affected areas.

For Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the PMD forecasted similarly hot and dry conditions across most parts of Pakistan, with central and southern regions experiencing extreme heat. Isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan were expected to witness partly cloudy weather with light rain-wind/thunderstorms during the night.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country, with very hot conditions in southern and central areas. Notably, rain occurred in Dir, where Upper Dir recorded a rainfall of 6 mm. The highest recorded maximum temperatures from the previous day include Jacobabad at 48°C, followed by Sibbi, Noor Pur Thal, D.G. Khan, and Bhakkar at 47°C. Okara, Kot Addu, Kasur, Layyah, Jhang, and Dadu all reported temperatures of 46°C.

The PMD’s alert serves as a crucial reminder for residents in the affected areas to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and seek cooler environments when possible. These measures are vital to mitigate the health risks posed by the intense heat wave.

As Pakistan braces for the hot spell, authorities and citizens alike are urged to stay informed about weather updates and heed the PMD’s advice to ensure safety and well-being during these challenging weather conditions.
