Karachi, August 19, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, indicating a continuation of active monsoon conditions across the country.
According to the PMD, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are advancing into southern and eastern regions of Pakistan. Concurrently, a westerly wave is influencing the upper parts of the country, contributing to the expected weather patterns.
For August 20, the PMD has forecasted rain with wind and thundershowers in several regions, including Kashmir, northeast Punjab, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations, particularly in the upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Potohar region.
The weather conditions on Monday, August 19, were marked by widespread rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours. Regions affected included northeast and eastern Punjab, southern and northeastern Balochistan, the Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The past 24 hours have seen varied rainfall across the country. In Sindh, Karachi experienced significant rainfall with Surjani Town recording 70 mm, Orangi Town 26 mm, and other areas such as North Karachi and Gulshan-e-Maymar receiving lesser amounts. In Punjab, Lahore’s Airport area recorded 62 mm of rain, while other areas like Sheikhupura and Sargodha received 10 mm and 7 mm respectively. Balochistan saw Barkhan with 11 mm, and Gilgit-Baltistan had Bagrote receiving 6 mm of rain.
The maximum temperatures recorded yesterday varied across different regions, with Nokkundi reaching a scorching 41°C, Dalbandin at 40°C, and Chillas at 39°C. These temperatures reflect the ongoing heat conditions in the country amidst the active monsoon system.
