SBP Announces Art Competition Results for New Banknote Series

Karachi, September 5, 2024 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially concluded its much-anticipated art competition for the designs of the new banknote series.

The competition, which invited local artists and designers to showcase their creativity, received an overwhelming response, highlighting the immense artistic talent within the country. After an extensive evaluation process conducted by a panel of esteemed experts, the top designs have been selected for recognition and awards.

The competition aimed to involve local artists in shaping the visual identity of Pakistan’s new banknote series, emphasizing the country’s rich cultural heritage and forward-looking vision. The SBP commended all participants for their outstanding efforts and announced the winners in various categories.

Prize Winners:

• Dr. Shery Abidi secured the 1st prize for the design of the Rs.10 banknote.

• Mr. Mirza Sufiyan won the 2nd prize for the Rs.10 banknote.

• Mr. Haroon Khan was awarded the 1st prize for the Rs.20 banknote.

• Syed Fawad Hussain earned the 1st prize for the Rs.50 banknote.

• Ms. Memoona Afzal stood out by winning 1st prizes for both the Rs.100 and Rs.5000 denominations.

• Ms. Hadiya Hassan claimed the 1st prize for the Rs.500 note, while Ms. Aynee Zahra was awarded the 2nd prize for the same denomination.

• Ms. Noureen Aslam won the 1st prize for the Rs.1000 note.

• Mr. Karim Muhammad received the 2nd prize for the Rs.5000 note.

These designs, presented with specific entry codes (listed in Annexure-A), were shortlisted for their originality, cultural relevance, and artistic quality.

In the next phase, these selected designs will be shared with international designers, who will collaborate with the SBP to finalize the banknote series. The international designers, while taking inspiration from the local submissions, will bring their own expertise and creativity to the table, ensuring the final designs reflect both the artistic spirit of Pakistan and global design standards.

The SBP is committed to ensuring that the new banknote series embodies the cultural richness and progressive future of Pakistan. This collaborative process between local and international designers is expected to yield a banknote series that both celebrates the nation’s heritage and meets modern aesthetic and security standards.

The winners will be awarded prize money as announced earlier, and further details about the award ceremony will be communicated in due course.
