SCBPL reports 29% profit decline in first half of 2026

Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan’s earnings fall as net interest and non-interest income decline during January-June 2026.

KARACHI: Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited (SCBPL) reported a 29% decline in after-tax profit during the first half of calendar year 2026, mainly due to lower net markup and non-markup income.

According to the bank’s financial statements for the six months ended June 30, 2026, SCBPL posted an after-tax profit of Rs11.78 billion, compared with Rs16.56 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Earnings per share (EPS) fell to Rs3.04 during the six-month period from Rs4.28 in the same period last year.

The bank’s net markup/interest income declined to Rs26.30 billion in the first half of 2026 from Rs32.47 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

Similarly, non-markup/interest income fell to Rs8.50 billion from Rs11.93 billion a year earlier.

As a result, SCBPL’s total income dropped to Rs34.81 billion during the first half of 2026, compared with Rs44.40 billion in the same period of the previous year.

Despite the decline in income, the bank managed to keep its operating expenses broadly stable. Operating expenses stood at Rs11 billion during the period, compared with Rs11.41 billion a year earlier.

SCBPL paid Rs12.60 billion in income tax during the six-month period ended June 30, 2026, compared with Rs16.34 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Second-quarter profit also declines

The bank’s profitability also weakened during the second quarter of calendar year 2026.

SCBPL reported an after-tax profit of Rs6.18 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with Rs8.58 billion in the same quarter of the previous year.

The latest financial results highlight a significant decline in the bank’s income during the first half of 2026, despite relatively stable operating expenses.
